"We help children fight back..."

Mission Statement:
The M.U. Foundation is a charitable federally registered non-profit 501 (c) 3 corporation established in 2006. Our mission targets victims of childhood ailments such as cancer, blood disorders, seizures and other life threatening childhood illnesses. Through donations and funds received via various fundraising events, we assist families coping with the financial burdens associated with a sick child. Additional funds, not to exceed 50% of gross donations, may be contributed towards facilities conducting moral/humane research towards a cure/treatment of the multiple childhood cancers/illnesses.

Why this mission?
The M.U. Foundation is a Christian based organization believing that “all children matter to God and therefore need to matter to us.”  The effects of childhood illnesses are not only devastating to the patient but to the family as well. We have established the foundation in memory of Muhammad Usmani, a beloved family member and charitable businessman, who succumbed to leukemia.

Some current statistics are as follows:

  • What is Epidermolysis Bullosa?

  • Epidermolysis Bullosa (EB) is an illness that causes the skin to be fragile. Because the skin is so fragile, it can be easily injured, causing painful blisters to form. These blisters can cause serious problems if they become infected.

  • Some people with EB have a mild form of the disease with few blisters. For others, there may be many blisters on the skin. Some people develop blisters inside the body - in places such as the mouth, stomach, esophagus (the tube that allows food to move between the throat and stomach), bladder, and elsewhere.

Other disease facts:

  •  Cancer is the #1 killer of children under the age of 14 yrs. next to accidents.
  • Even with insurance coverage, families can expect to spend $40,000/year. The financial burden further compounds the emotional and spiritual hardships experienced by the entire family.
  • More than 10,000 children are diagnosed with cancer annually.
  • More than 1,500 children will die within 1 year of diagnosis.
  • Research has increased survival rates from 58% in 1977 to 79% in 2002.

Our goal…
With each event, we hope to raise enough funds to effectively decrease the financial burden a family is experiencing in treating their child’s illness. In a broader scope we hope to bring greater awareness of these diseases and the constant flow of funds necessary to sustain effective research. In collaboration with event participants, health care organizations and other charitable organizations, the M.U. Foundation is committed to being an integral part of the team fighting for the lives of these afflicted children one family at a time.

Sincerely,
David Negron, President and Co-Founder

Continued success!

We would like to extend our deepest gratitude to the George Martin's Group Grillfire restaurant of Merrick, O'Reilly's Bar and Grill of Oakdale, Applebee's of Islip and ISACC students/parents. Through your efforts we have not only raised seed monies for the the MU Foundation's future projects but we have provided additional substantial donations to Casey in the forms of debt repayment of bills and medical supplies. Through continued prayers and efforts, especially in this tight economy, one thing has been proven over and over. God is good, all the time..........Grace and Peace all.

Happy Thanksgiving!!!

Thank you!!!
What a success! The weather was GREAT, the turnout was GREAT and most of all, the volunteers, entertainment and food were all OUTSTANDING!
We were graced with Casey's presence as his illness can limit his abilities to be outside the home. Thank God the amount of money raised is sufficient to help with several months mortgage. Additional health care supplies will help defray the regular monthly expenses needed for ongoing care. Even though the event is complete, stay posted for several more restaurant events that will be taking place through October to further the cause. These will take place through the George Martin Group and Applebees of East Islip. Feel free to continue donating online or through the mail.
Thank you especially to Utopia Homecare, Bohemia Auto Wash, Patchogue Fire Department, the Reilly family, Paul Snyder Memorial Fund, Starbucks Islip, Snapple, East Coast Embroidery, Brian Simonetti CPA of Ross-Strent Co. LLP, 3 on 6, Sam Negron, Arlon Bennett, Jacque Reiher, SCCC Haitian and Honors Club, Get It All Meats, Davis Park Beaders, Curry Kebob House Patchogue, Tina's Ices and all MU Foundation officers/volunteers. You are all OUTSTANDING!
Grace and peace always...

Sweet success!

Thank you all who made the "Autism Ride For Derek" a success. We faced some difficulties including a downed brother rider (thank God Chris is OK), rain, running on reserve and a flat tire. To my brothers at BACA "you are awesome!" - Councilman Steve Flotteron gave an inspiring speech and has restored my faith in local government. Mike D'Arcy of the Institute for Children with Autism, Riverhead, N.Y. educated us on Autism Spectrum and enabled us to help identify and guide victims of this disorder towards appropriate management.

Despite a low number of riders (rain), we were able to provide a significant amount of money to Derek and his family to help defray costs of health care. Derek's family only requested that we raise awareness regarding autism and I believe this was well accomplished.

To those who missed it; the food, auction, music, ride, people and most of all Derek made the whole day worth while.

We are in the process of scheduling our next ride. We accept donations year round and hope to ride with you soon. Remember "we help kids fight back".
